Coaching

Coaching for intermediate and advanced writers is available. For the full range of what I offer, visit the Writing Coach page at LindaLowen.com, for services offered and rates.

There are also two other individually-priced options: a one-time evaluation and an accountability plan.

“I just want an evaluation of my work.”

Okay then. Finding an editor is a tricky process, and I understand — you just want to someone to weigh in on whether your work is any good.

That’s why I offer a trial option: evaluation of your writing.

For a fiction novel or non-fiction book (e.g. memoir, how-to, biography, collected essays, etc.) the price includes:

  • evaluation of two chapters (not to exceed 6,000 words, preferably your first chapter and another one that represents your best work)
  • light editing (so you can see my style and approach – done in either Word via Track Changes or through Google Docs)
  • notes on what works/what doesn’t (similar to a writing critique class)
  • one 45-minute phone consultation about your work to discuss edits and notes

The Fiction Novel/Non-Fiction Book Evaluation is $150.

  • evaluation of work (up to 2,000 words)
  • light editing (so you can see my style and approach – done in either Word via Track Changes or through Google Docs)
  • notes on what works/what doesn’t (similar to a writing critique class)
  • one 30-minute phone consultation to discuss edits and notes

The Fiction Short Story/Non-Fiction Piece Evaluation is $75.

If you like what you see and you do decide you need a writing coach, we can continue to work together and since I’ll be familiar with your writing, you may need less coaching than someone just working with me for the first time.

“I just want someone to be accountable to.”

In the 8-week writing classes I teach at a regional writer’s center, this is the single biggest motivator for adults students to sign up. They realize they can’t write on their own without a structure of accountability, and regular classes offer that.

That’s why I offer an accountability plan: the ongoing push you need to keep writing.

If you don’t have nearby classes, or you want to focus on doing the writing and don’t need someone to review the actual work, I can serve as your accountability coach. Together we’ll draw up a plan on what you want to achieve over a two-month period, set up goals and milestones, and meet those goals.

The accountability plan includes:

  • two calendar months of accountability coaching (not to exceed 8 weeks total)
  • one initial 30-minute phone conversation to discuss struggles you face and goals you want to reach (word count, establishing a daily writing practice, etc.)
  • a mutually-determined plan with weekly milestones that will be emailed to you after our consultation
  • weekly “touching base” emails that you’ll respond to with self-reported outcomes
  • a final evaluation of how you did and recommendations on moving forward

The Accountability Plan (2 months, 8 weeks total) is $75.

You may recommit to the accountability plan as many times as you wish. Each two-month stint will include a new 30-minute phone consultation on goals for the next 8 weeks.

If you do decide you need a writing coach, we can continue to work together, and you will be able to take advantage of the writing evaluation option at a reduced rate of 10% off.
